Orthoses
Orthotics are devices placed inside your shoes that are tailored to your specific needs and serve various purposes. They help address issues with walking and relieve pain. To determine whether orthotics might benefit you, a thorough assessment of your feet, including how you stand and walk, will be conducted to see if your gait contributes to your discomfort. Orthotics can assist with conditions such as functional hallux limitus (when the big toe doesn’t bend properly during walking) and pes planus (flat feet or excessive rolling in while walking). The orthotics are adapted to fit your requirements. We offer two types: off-the-shelf orthotics, which are generally more affordable and can be modified in the clinic by adding extra posts, and custom-made orthotics. Off-the-shelf versions usually last one to two years, depending on usage, before needing replacement.
Custom orthotics are a more expensive option. The process requires taking a digital impression of your foot, which is then sent to a laboratory along with a prescription tailored to individual requirements. These orthotics can be further customised with various top cover materials to enhance cushioning as needed. Due to the ability to incorporate postings directly into the insole rather than attaching them externally, custom insoles are often thinner, facilitating better fit in narrow footwear or shoes without removable liners. Additionally, custom orthotics generally offer greater durability compared to off-the-shelf alternatives, as they are manufactured using different materials.
